What better way to be paid for your drug trouble than in cash? According to an article in the LA Times, a new study shows that $19 billion to $29 billion is shipped south and then laundered through cash purchases of land, luxury cars, hotels and other high-end items.
As this type of money transferring goes on, it eludes detection and continues to fund vast criminal operations. The study attempts to explore the ways in which illicit drug-trafficking profits make their way from the United States to Mexico or Columbia in an effort to determine how best to interrupt the process.
