Drug trafficking describes the activities involved in producing and distributing illegal drugs throughout the world. The high demand for illegal drugs in the United States has created a network of drug cartels in countries that produce and distribute drugs that rule through violence and intimidation. In many countries drug trafficking is facilitated by corruption among police and other law enforcement, making it difficult to stem the flow of drugs or the violence trafficking naturally causes as cartels fight for territory and supremacy in the drug trade.
