US Teen Drug Use Survey Released

The federal government’s annual report of kids’ alcohol and drug abuse found that among 46,000 American eighth, 10th, and 12th graders, use of hallucinogens, marijuana, methamphetamines decreased in 2008. But although drug and alcohol use seems to be declining or holding steady, there has been slippage in teen disapproval of such practices and perception of risks, officials warned.

Facts about PCP

Inexpensive and easy to produce, PCP is a potent threat on the street as users (mostly adolescents and young adults) continue to use the drug despite negative effects ranging from moderate to severe and even potentially lethal.

According to the 2007 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), 6.1 million, or 2.5 percent, of the population of Americans aged 12 and older reported having used PCP at some point in their lifetime, 137,000 (0.1 percent) reported past year use and 41,000 (0.0 percent) said they used the drug in the past month prior to being surveyed.
